Technology on its own is not a danger to anyone, only those who control it or use it can be dangerous, as always. Either way,…is it time for a self-reflection of civilisation?
My article is longish because I do not like shallow thinking, therefore I do not need to share either shallow information and or just one view, as there is never only one view. Who says you need to read everything at once, or all of it, we’re not at school, right? So nice and easy, here I am with my views which I share as possible food for thought.
NOTICE: I concentrate on the information itself that I convey, not on the format or pretty readable language. I have my priorities, and you have your clever mind which can translate my messages into any format of your liking. I did not want to use AI translator as my editor, I just have translated or corrected some words or grammar, because why should I make myself better than I am? I am not afraid to be just a human, to be just me.
I knew an American who hated even smallest grammar/pronunciation error when non-natives spoke English – poor guy, I had to smile to myself while watching him how he was torturing himself because he could not respect others… I hope he is well.
Part I (VI)
- Not again…
- Postpone the AI development, or not?
- Will AI disrupt our lives?
Let’s read.
- Not again…
The other week it took me so long to look for one specific post on LinkedIn I found just previous day about AI that I gave up my search. There were so many posts, and I was scrolling through only the new posts added the last 2 to 3 hours. Incredible.
For sure it’s AI-mania, it’s time for kids who’s got a new toy (before it gets its price). Unfortunately, once again, there is too much noise around a subject (AI) so we are losing crucial time to think and act afterwards. Again, we act and judge first, we accept quick and shallow answers, we follow a sensation. What can go wrong…?
I find a digital hygiene crucial once more, on the web or any social media, because many posts are similar and/or just attention needy. It created a bulk of useless information which only takes up space, and energy to search for anything useful in this mess. And those who raise important points are not heard in the bulk of noise, or in the worst case scenarios, people disregards them and they even try to dishonest their important points. Just from this view, the AI has shown us our great ignorance. Well done us, again!
Due to my digital hygiene, I use my web to share one singe article about the AI, where I share my views which are more about AI being a mirror to humans. My question is – is it time for a self-reflection of civilisation? The AI is like our mirror we look into. There are many similar mirrors around us, in people, nature, or in conflicts.
Who knows, maybe one day there will be someone who will be interested in discussing all kinds of views about the AI vs humans on the deeper level… Or such people will present their views, and hopefully will be heard. I love learning more and thinking deeper.
- Postpone the AI development, or not?
What exactly happens, if we do not wait a little longer? I cannot think of anything critical. And I am done with this global question – we can take little steps, and also safe ones.
There are obviously those who have high interest in the AI development, but how about the general population? Are we going to let ourselves to be bought by idealistic offers of AI pets, child-care gadgets, or technology driving for us? Do people in general need fast and unpredictable development, or even an (AI) evolution in its literal meaning?
Perhaps, we just like any fast excitement. We have a good history with fast food, fast healing, fast driving, anything fast is good, until it’s not. We think we do this to ourselves, that it’s our life, it’s no business of others. It’s a big mistake to think you do not have impact on your surroundings. In my experience, most of our doings have impact on something or someone, if not all. With fast food, and other „diets“, we don’t even know of the impacts to our DNA. Long suffering, or any long body condition is imprinted into our DNA. So we are good programmers, and rich givers to our next generations. Mirror, Mirror, tell us who is the best evolutionaries…!? The main thing is, if we don’t care about our own real development, how can we be sure we know that we can manage the development of others well?
When working with clients it’s always the same, they cannot move forward until they are open to see the real situation, the reality. We should ask, what is the real situation here. How well are we responsible for ourselves, or for others? Are we ready for another addition (AI) to be responsible for? Are we sure we should be creating something we are not able, or don’t want to, control? Do we have the time to follow the development of AI, or their creators, their owners? Do we have the strength to demand relevant regulations and real controls to be applied from authorities? I think not. Mainly, because there are so many distraction for us that we do not know what to follow, what’s critical to focus on.
Only our AI mirror can tell us if we will choose responsible approach, or we just love learning by hard lessons.
- Will AI disrupt our lives?
I think we should square up with implementing AI at the current general level as it is in our lives in the first place. Even the AI implemented within the search tools might not be the best idea, we aren’t familiarised with the AI yet. We can be as unsure about results as we are about any kind of new products we use. It is still in a testing process. We are all about safety and not hurting anyone, only through others, and here we open our arms with no safety procedures in place?
Or, isn’t this about us anymore? The fact that some/many companies already use AI in terms of automatisation and such does not mean the whole civilisation is squared up with this level of AI too. And there is AI already on completely different and higher level, as we know of. Just this silly fast implementation can be a disruption. Unless, we are know-it-all and we know for sure AI can be only wonderful and helpful and nothing can surprise us. Who couldn’t think that, we have already so much experience with AI, don’t we?
I say, let’s implement the real social responsibility here (just don’t confuse this responsibility with oppression, again). We should think of our whole society here, or civilisation even. If companies want to use AI, it’s fine, but people in general should be given the right to choose whether they want anything with the AI, partly, or nothing at all. The tactics „we will force you anyway“ will stop working soon, as this tactics is being used too often lately.
I think, anything can disrupt our lives, so perhaps we should ask about the worst case scenarios, because it gives us needed limit. From our psychology it’s very important point for our thinking and expectation scale. Basically, we need to know what are we working here with. This is being completely disregarded. Any relevant disregarding of general human features can resolve in great disruption.
Let’s do a reality check. The past few years were tested. Most of the people were not able to say „no“, or „hold on“ to many hasty and nasty actions done by authorities, that is a fact. We know of now what we are not able to do, and we also know what authorities are able/allowed to do. It is (not) ok, but we need to work with that reality without fooling ourselves. If not, our lives will get even more messy. How can we think we can demand anything, when we are crouching in a corner anytime someone shout boo at us? We have shown so far, that we are not able or capable to control AI, or any conflicts, external circumstances or our freedom for that matter. Or shall we rather ask the mirror now how are we doing?
Are we even ready for powerful, or even possibly self-aware intelligence? Do we know of „curiosity killed the cat“ meaning? I rather take small steps than to be that cat. Which also reminds me (there are repeating similar patterns in many seemingly unrelated things in our world), that the US authorities started to come up with UFO talks, investigations and claims that UFO is/might be real. I have seen so many times this pre-dance information which was followed by the actual happening, that I am waiting with holding my breath to see how this one will play out. We should be very careful about any possible big disruptions, and distractions.
Anyway, we don’t know what to expect about AI in general, which is a risk and we are without any applicable treatment plan. What can go wrong, right?
